Tempe Area 10 WL Replacement

City of Tempe

Proud to be part of another successful underground utility project with TFC, replacing approximately 1,900 LF of aging 8-inch water main running directly through the heart of the ASU campus along Tyler Mall.

This project included installing new restrained joint ductile iron pipe, multiple 8-inch gate valves, new fire hydrants, and several fire service and domestic water tie-ins. One of the biggest challenges was navigating multiple 15-foot-deep concrete utility tunnels while working around existing chilled water and steam lines—all within one of the busiest pedestrian corridors on campus.

Through close coordination with ASU, the City of Tempe, and our field crews, we adapted to changing field conditions, completed critical weekend work, and kept the project on schedule. Pressure testing and bacteriological testing are the final steps before commissioning.

Projects like this are a reminder that successful utility construction isn't just about installing pipe—it's about solving problems, working as a team, and delivering reliable infrastructure that will serve the campus for years to come.
